Fitness should always start at home. Habits that we develop in our homes tend to be taken into our work places and other places we go to. If you\'re after overall physical and mental fitness, you\'d have to make your home more conducive to the fit lifestyle that you\'re planning to have. When you exercise regularly at home and you take care that your meals follow a certain diet, it won\'t be hard to follow this up even in the workplace and going to the gym would be easier for you. You might not even need to go to the gym if you feel that you get enough physical activity and work out at home. Here are some ways to start on having a fitness friendly home.
Set aside time for exercise - It doesn\'t have to be a full two or three hour session. Thirty minutes of exercise coupled with physical activities like chores throughout the day is enough workout for the average person. If you have exercise videos and some home gym equipment, set aside time to use them. Work out with your husband or kids or you can get a personal fitness trainer to help you with your workout if you can afford it. Concentrate on the exercises for the full thirty minutes and build up a sweat. You can also choose to run everyday before work or take brisk walks in the afternoon or ride your bicycle through the whole village. Gardening and weeding are chores that can help with you exercise programs.
Have healthier meals - you don\' have to necessary go on an ultra strict diet to follow this. What you should do is strive to change eating patterns and habits that are not good for your health. Pizza or take out every other night will not help you in keeping fit. Nor will all the sweets and junk food lying around the house within easy reach. Arrange your eating patterns and plan your meals to make sure they include more fish and meat (preferably white) as sources of protein, more fruits and vegetables for the vitamins and minerals and the carbohydrates that you need for energy. Healthy food need not be tasteless or boring. Sweets and desserts can still be taken but moderately. Junk food should not take the place of a meal and sodas should not take the place of water.
Follow a schedule - try waking up early in the morning and sleeping not so late at night. This will help keep your body systems functioning regularly and on time. Disrupted body clocks contribute to the stress we often encounter in our lives. Try not to take work home. Have time for recreation and mental activities that you enjoy.
These simple steps will help prepare your home to be fitness friendly. It doesn\'t happen overnight though. You will need to be consistent and continuous in these steps so that it will be second nature to you as time progresses.
